25th February 1955 – 18th July 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lynne Hammond, who died at home on Saturday, 18 July 2026, aged 71 years.

Dearly loved mother of Tom and Rosie, treasured granny to Max, Annie and Ernie, and beloved sister of Jenny and Robert.

Born and raised in Cambridge, Lynne spent most of her life in the city she loved. She had a deep appreciation for both her local community and the wider world. A lifelong Cantabrigian, she was well known and fondly regarded by many for her warmth, wit and friendly nature.

Lynne was exceptionally intelligent, creative and talented. She had a deep love of music and was a familiar face on the Cambridge folk music scene, where she loved singing and playing the bodhrán. Over the years, she built countless friendships and connections and was held in great affection by those who knew her.

While Cambridge, and later Ely, was always home, she also loved to travel, explore new places and embrace new adventures. Her travels took her across the world, including working in the USA in her youth and making many cherished visits to Australia over the years.

She taught for many years at Bottisham Village College, The Manor School and The Perse School, where she inspired generations of students. Many who knew her will remember her not only as a talented and dedicated teacher, but also for her warmth, humour and wonderfully witty character. Her classrooms were places of learning, laughter and encouragement, and she remained fondly remembered by countless former students long after they had left school.

Lynne had a lifelong love of animals and wildlife and possessed a special gift that seemed to draw them to her. Over the years, she cared for many cherished pets, several of whom found their way to her through Woodgreen Animal Shelter. Her kindness, compassion and warm spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
