Vernon was very passionate about supporting the Royal British Legion.
He would have felt it an honour when he became the Vice chair and then Chairman of the Somersham branch.
His enthusiasm and determination in organising fundraising events meant that the branch increased their poppy appeal donations over successive years.
He also cared about the members and would help someone if they were in need.
