We shared many happy years of close friendship with Alec & Janet while living in Kabwe, Zambia during the 1970s/1980s. We enjoyed our various safari adventures together in his landrover. His experience of living in the bush while working on his exploratory trips, served us well when it came to encountering wildlife on our holidays as he was an expert in retreating very quickly from any threatening species we encountered, at any given time. Robert & Alec also enjoyed sailing on lake Mulungushi, whenever he was back from his bush trips. They particularly enjoyed competing in the Annual Sailing regatta and were not at all disappointed in finishing last. We have only just learnt of Alec’s involvement in raising money for young women’s education in Zambia. We are overwhelmed with his modesty and the thousands he raised in his lifetime. The memory of Alec willl remain with us forever in our hearts. Robert & Geraldine Shanks
