Steve’s journey finally came to an end on Monday 8th June 2026.
He died at home surrounded by close friends and family.
Steve was unwell for the last 11 years of his life. He was initially diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, but latterly this was correctly diagnosed as Corticobasal degeneration (CBD) – a rare, progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects movement, cognition, and speech due to brain cell loss.
The last 3.5 years of his life were spent at home, bedbound, having been diagnosed with two rare conditions,
Corticobasal degeneration (CBD) and Mucinous Adenocarcinoma of the bowel.
During this time, he was loved and cared for by a small team of carers, his wife Davina and close friends.
Steve was non-verbal, but he still bought joy to everyone who visited, with his lovely smile and twinkle in his eye.
A legacy of Steve’s is Community Support for Dementia. A group set up to offer social stimulation and a safe and inclusive space for those ‘living with dementia’. He was an unofficial ambassador for dementia in the community.
He served the community for 30 years in the Fire Service and he will continuously serve the community through Community Support for Dementia
He will be greatly missed by everyone!
