Mr Andrew John McDonald

Andrew John McDonald (1958 – 2026) – Biography

Andrew McDonald was born in Watford, Hertfordshire to John and Lesley McDonald. In his early years Andrew and his sister Hilary followed in their father’s footsteps and became avid supporters of Watford Football Club, which helped form Andrew’s lifelong interest in football and other sports. After High School, Andrew worked for many years at the Liverpool Victoria Insurance Company in London, and then relocated to Cambridge in 1990 after taking an administrative position at Cambridge University, where he worked until retirement.

Andrew was a dedicated son, brother, uncle and neighbor. His love for family and friends extended to the animal kingdom, where he became a dedicated “dad” to many adopted cats during his years in Cambridge. His calm character and concern for others will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Andrew worshipped at All Saints church, Milton, Cambridge, and expressed his deep gratitude for the loving support of the congregation during his illness, and for the exceptional care he received at the Arthur Rank Hospice.

Andrew is survived by his sister Hilary Cox, brother-in-law Christopher Cox, niece Suzannah Kokotajlo, cousins Carolyn Whitely, John Morris, Amanda Ritchie, Dawn Harris, and other cousins and relatives. Andrew is predeceased by his parents John and Lesley McDonald, and niece Nicola Cox.
