George Cook
Charles George Cook, known as George, was born on 3rd June 1931.
He was one of four children; Patsy, Mary and later Terry.
He grew up in London and Sussex. And at age 17, he joined the Navy (Electrical Branch ).
George spent 7 and a half years in the Navy and went on to be become a Petty Officer .
He did a two and half year commission in the Mediterranean during this time.
He emigrated to Canada with his wife Sallie in their 20s and they enjoyed their time there.
They returned to the UK after 4 years and lived in Shoreham-by Sea.
They had two children; Charles and Sandra.
Later they moved to Melbourn and then Foxton, where they lived happily for over 45 years.
George was a sporty man; a good boxer who won the novice light middleweight championship in Malta whilst in the Navy.
He ran several football teams over the years and was a qualified coach.
George was a keen badminton player, played bowls and enjoyed many years as an enthusiastic golfer.
He worked hard and excelled at work, later becoming a work study engineer.
He started his career in the Navy as an electrician.
George and Sallie took great pride in their home and garden.
He could turn his hand to most practical tasks and together
they fully renovated the old school masters house and filled the garden with a riot of colour.
They also grew a lot of vegetables!
George was a family man; kind hearted, hard working, loyal, calm and witty.
He was a loving grandfather to Stuart, Alex and Elsie.
A wonderful father to Charles and Sandra and a devoted husband to Sallie.
He believed strongly in travel to broaden the mind.
With Sallie they travelled extensively, including Singapore, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand.
And they travelled frequently to Toronto to see Charles, Antonella and Elsie. They also decided to take up skiing in their 50s!
George will be deeply missed but his wit and good guidance will live on in all of those that he knew.
To dear Sallie, Chas & Sandra. With heartfelt condolences to you and your families. Love from Helen Bardwell
