Messages of condolence

Dearest Rachel. Our lives are much richer for having known you, if only for a few years. Funny, charismatic, caring, strong, loyal and loved by so many. We will miss you every day and on every run, but also be inspired by you to live life to the full. Our sincerest condolences to John, Izzy, Hugo and your wider family.

Mr & Mrs Alison & Steve Dyche

So very sad to hear of the passing of Rachel, who as many others have, I met when I joined Steeple Chasers Run Club. I was immediately drawn to her, being a fellow northerner and we had a shared link due to pancreatic cancer touching our lives. Rachel truly was a force (beautiful, kind and funny) of nature and I will have her in my thoughts often, as I’m pounding the streets, fields running with the chasers, or just spending a quiet moment of reflection. What a wonderful impact you had on so many, Rachel. You will be very much missed x

Mrs Anita Birch

Rachel joined the Steeple Chasers after meeting another club member, Jane Allton, at Wimpole Parkrun and went on to encourage others from Litlington to join the club too. She threw herself into club runs and cycle rides, took on various 10km runs and in March 2021 the Cambridge Half Marathon, always wearing her club t-shirt with great pride. Anyone who met Rachel over the years was immediately drawn to her northern humour, positive attitude and fantastic ability to tell a story with all the details, and often incredulity, at a situation she found herself in! She was regularly accompanied by the family dog, the most lively of spaniels, Phyllis. ‘Don’t’ was the instruction given to everyone who offered to throw a ball for Phyllis, as you would get bored of the game long before Phyllis. Just a couple of weeks after achieving a Personal Best time at the Rutland Night 10km Run in November 2022, Rachel was diagnosed with her cancer. Due to her fitness and sheer tenacity she ran, walked and cycled her way through various treatments, always joining the Steeple Chasers whenever she could and encouraging others to do their best whenever she couldn’t. She also became a valued member of the committee in 2024 and a brilliant report writer for our Fun Team Challenge in May 2025. Rachel will be deeply missed by all her friends in the club, and we gave her a true Steeple Chasers send off by wearing our club t-shirts and running shoes to her funeral service, as requested by Rachel herself. This final instruction from Rachel made us all realise what a valued part of her life the Steeple Chasers have been. We say goodbye to Rachel with very heavy hearts and tears in our eyes, but every run around the local villages will bring back memories of the force of nature that was Rachel, and she would want us to keep running, keep laughing, keep supporting each other and keep being ‘Powered by Cake’.

I’m proud to have known Rachel and to have called her my friend. She helped to make our wonderful Steeple Chasers Club a success. Rachel had a wonderful smile and a twinkle in her eye and I loved her storytelling, quick humour and straight talking. She always had a solution for everything. I will feel her loss immensely but will hold those memories dear and channel my inner Rachel whenever I’m unsure what to do.

Mrs Laura Sims

I connected with Rachel over our love of books. She then became a great supporter of my meditation classes and I will always thank her for that encouragement. Rachel was one of the strongest women I’ve met in my life. She was charismatic and could more than hold the attention of a room when retelling a funny story. There will always be an extra seat at book club for you Rachel and I know you’ll be there in spirit x

Mrs Michele Taylor
