Donations to the RNLI
Guy was a keen sailor and a lifetime member of the RORC. Whilst tales of maritime disasters were embellished over time, he did have cause to be rescued by the lifeboat team at Porthdinllaen. Whilst our mother admired the flares from the coastguard station, “Oh! How pretty”, little did she know that Guy had capsized a Mirror dingy with four small children in the tide race off the headland. Unfortunately for those relaxing at Lifeboat Bay, there was no dramatic launch of the lifeboat down the slipway as a local lobster fisherman quickly made his way to the rescue and gave a tow back to the beach. Guy was eternally grateful to the RNLI when they reassured our mother that they were just passing and there had been nothing to worry about.
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. They provide, on call, a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the UK and Ireland, and a seasonal lifeguard service. With lifeboats, lifeguards, safety advice and flood rescue, they are committed to saving lives.
