Mrs Jane Elsey

Jane Elsey.jpg

Jane Christina Morrison was born in February of 1962, in Newtownards, Northern Ireland.   Growing up the family moved to various locations around the UK and Scotland.  Jane was a reserved child, who loved reading.  In her teenage years, the family settled in Suffolk in and around Bury St. Edmunds.  She was athletic and showed a proficiency for languages, having “an ear” which picked up the intonation of a language along with a ready grasp of the grammar.

Jane progressed her languages at Leeds where she studied Spanish and secretarial studies, which included time abroad.    Her following career included work for the Spanish Embassy and BBC.   Jane moved to the airline British Caledonian and then started her life in recruitment.   It was during this time that Jane met and married, and after a few years later started a family.

Jane was a keen tennis player, playing for the teams of several clubs.  She loved music and west end musicals and always had a book on the go.  With a keen interest in fashion and makeup Jane took pride in her appearance.

Jane was the proud and devoted mother of Georgina and Alexander.  She was tremendous support to her father following her mother’s death in 2022 and had close ties with her sisters Carol and Judy.

Jane was a kind, considerate, warm, and loving person with a wonderful smile, grace, and dignity.   She found her vocation when she became a counsellor at Hills Road Sixth Form College giving the best of herself to help 17- and 18-year-old students.

The family ask that instead of flowers, donations, in Jane’s memory, for either Centre33 or Arthur Rank Hospice, would be appreciated.

·      Centre33 is a charity that provides counselling to young people and is a place where Jane volunteered in her early career as a counsellor.

·     The Arthur Rank Hospice took wonderful care of Jane in the last few weeks of her life.

Mr Nick Hunton

Jane worked at Hills Road for 22 years, first as a very special member of the study skills team and thereafter as a student counsellor. Jane was loved by students and staff alike and it is hard to think of anyone more suited to these roles. Jane had an incredible calm empathy and exuded kindness just even in a casual corridor conversation. Jane was simply one of those people who make the world better just by being in it and we all feel it poorer for her absence. With fondest love from colleagues and friends at Hills Road Sixth Form College

Ms Josie Ferrante

My line management of “the dream team” of counsellors at Hills, of which Jane was obviously one half, was an absolute pleasure and privilege. To be in her presence you couldn’t help but feel calm and that everything would be ok, which was why she was loved by staff and students alike. I’m so very sorry for your loss - gone too soon but she made such a difference in the time she was here.

Dr Nicki Dartnell

It has been a real privilege to work with Jane and her death is a huge loss. I send my warmest wishes to Howard and family at this very sad time.
