Brian was born in May 1934 and grew up in Knowle, Bristol, with his brother Donald and sister Doreen.
He went to school at Bristol Grammar, and studied Medicine at Exeter College Oxford, graduating in 1952.
He met Ailsa at University College Hospital (UCH) London, where she was working and he was continuing his medical studies.
After marriage, travel beckoned with both National Service in Belgium and a professional secondment to Massachusetts.
On returning to the UK they moved up to Cambridge so he could take up a Consultant Anesthetist role at Addenbrookes.
Family life started in what was then still the small village of Great Shelford, David arriving in 1970 and Jane following in 1974.
His career would focus on anesthesia, specializing in Obstetric Anesthetics.
Whilst medical work took up most of his time, his main relaxation came from gardening, both floral and agricultural.
In his retirement he rekindled his love of walking, in particular in Europe, with other interests in classical music, opera, and investing.
His health deteriorated after a stroke at the end of 2023, but he was able to enjoy his 90th at a local care home. Coming home shortly afterwards, his health deteriorated, but he passed peacefully overlooking his beloved garden.
We have chose two charities, one relating to his work, the other for his love of natural space.
