WARD - Maureen Maria

Passed peacefully to rest on Sunday 26th May 2024, aged 87 years, at Etheldred House Care Home, surrounded by her family.

Devoted wife of the late Tony, dearly loved mum to Chris, Jane and Ian.

Loving grandmother of Tom, Jamie and Becky, mother-in-law to Karen, Elaine and Simon.

Maureen will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

Mum was born in Catford, Lewisham on 20th September 1936 and moved to Cambridge with her parents, Ben and Florence Manni, just before the war. The family lived in Harvey Goodwin Avenue and latterly at The Florence, Italian restaurant on Hills Road, Cambridge (next to St Paul’s Church).

It was here as a young woman that she met our dad, Tony, who lived opposite at Lambert & Ward, Newsagents, 46 Hills Road. They were married in 1957, moved to a new home on Arbury Road and us children, Chris, Jane and Ian, soon came along. In 1970 The Wards moved to The Coppice, Impington, their home for 42 years.

Devoted to each other, Tony and Maureen enjoyed a long and happy marriage and, for us children a wonderful family life for which we are truly grateful xxx

Mum’s funeral service is to be held at the Church of Our Lady and the English Martyrs, Hills Road, Cambridge, CB2 1JR at 12.15pm on Tuesday 9th July 2024, followed by a private family committal. We would very much like you to join us at The Boot, Histon for refreshments following the service,

Family flowers only, donations if desired to Etheldred House Care Home may be made through Maureen’s InMemory (this page) at www.peasgoodandskeates.co.uk or sent to Peasgood & Skeates, 164 Histon Road, Cambridge CB4 3JP (01223 791060).
